This is easily the most entertaining and intriguing series I have ever read! I never have gotten excited about a book before, but this was stupendous. Make sure to read the first one before the second!

Complete Transparency! My 2018 Writing Income!

Hey all! For my first post of the new year, I thought I’d try something new and pull the curtain to reveal my 2018 writing income. I thought maybe this information would help other writers as they build their own creative careers. Earnings information for authors is VERY hard to find online, and I don’t blame people for being pretty guarded about it, but I figure why not be open about this? Maybe it will encourage someone to give this a try! Or maybe someone will see these numbers and say, “He works that hard for just THAT?” Either way, maybe it will help! 🙂

Considering that I do this on a very part-time basis, I am fairly pleased with my 2018 writing income. My goal is to steadily build a base of royalty payments and advances as I keep adding new projects to my library.

For 2018, my Gross Income was: $16,679.46. The specifics are broken down below:

CCH: $13,604.06

Patreon: $2,034.87

StarStreakers: $1,000.00

Misc Sales (merchandise and short stories): $40.53

As you can see, I still rely heavily on my royalties from Community College Hero Parts 1 and 2. A goal for 2019 is to diversify my creative income with increased earnings from my StarStreakers project as well as Talon City, a fantasy legal thriller I plan to indie publish later this year. I’m also quite excited about a decent start with Patreon, although it does involve significant expenses as well (see below). I’ve learned the hard way that it’s a waste of time trying to sell merchandise, and my first attempt at selling CCH short stories was an abysmal failure, but I learn from my mistakes. I’ll be focusing entirely on my main projects and Patreon in 2019.

My total expenses of $2,688.35 in 2018 were higher than I would like, but I incurred a lot of one-time or infrequent costs. The biggest costs were art for the CCH Character Sheets I provide to my patrons on Patreon, some cover art for CCH2, the Community College HiJinks comic strip, web-hosting for two years, art contest prize money, some Facebook ads, and an online publishing course. TOTAL NET INCOME FOR THE YEAR WAS: $13,991.11

Patreon: $1075.00

Art: $890.00

Marketing: $268.17

Tech: $233.19

Misc Office: $173.04

Education: $48.95

Short CCH3 Demo Now Available through Patreon!

Work on Community College Hero 3: tentatively subtitled “A Perfect World,” has officially started!

Eventually, semi-private beta testing will take place on the Choice of Games forums, but that will be a long time from now, likely sometime in 2020.

For anyone who would like to support my writing, and who would like to get exclusive access to CCH3 as I write it, providing feedback for me as I proceed, consider checking out my Patreon page at: https://www.patreon.com/ericmoser

At the Booksmart level, you get:

  1.  access to my feed,
  2. one monthly CCH RPG character sheet,
  3. access to any short stories that I’m working on, and
  4. access to the CCH3 work-in-progress link.

Thanks so much for your support!

I am SO pumped about this new project with Fable Labs!

These characters have really grown from my initial concepts, similarly to how Crook, DG, Tress, etc., grew from their initial concepts into what they became in CCH1. (Did you know that Crook was initially going to be a D&D nerd, and DG was always going to smell like burnt toast?)

In StarStreakers!, the main character has changed ENTIRELY. She’s now a full fledged character that you guide through an epic journey of adventure, exploration, learning, and character development. And the supporting cast has changed, too, into hopefully more nuanced and interesting characters. The only character that still exists from my original notes is a dolphin. And he’s my favorite.

StarStreakers! will follow an episodic formula, so you won’t get it all at the same time like with CCH, but you’ll get (fairly) frequent new episodes! Hopefully, this lets me consider reader feedback as I write subsequent episodes in the series.

If you have any questions, ask away, but I can’t say too much because so much is still under wraps and subject to change. To those in the Northern Hemisphere, have a Specktacular first day of Autumn!

Vote in the Summer Art Contest!

I’m starting judging for the art contest a day early because my wife will be out of town tomorrow and my morning will be nuts with my girls, work, etc. A few rules on voting:

  • Vote for TWO entries and refer to them by the numbers (1-8) that I randomly assigned them.
  • Please keep comments short and focused; this will help me when tabulating votes.
  • Judging ends on Friday, August 10th at 11:59 PM EST
  • You can vote only once per platform, but you can vote on all four platforms (CoG forums, website, Twitter, Facebook) if you’d like.
  • One last thing, please don’t copy/save any of the art. I’m spending $175.00 of my own money on prizes, and I own the rights to the art entries. I anticipate putting at least one of these on Red Bubble for merchandise as I did with the last contest

In your comment, refer to the number I assigned each image:

  1. Uni
  2. Speck 7 Under Friendzone Influence
  3. Synergy and MC in Tyler Park
  4. Monstrosity X versus Synergy
  5. Lady Ash
  6. Crook versus Manipulator
  7. Crook and MC at Massage Parlor
  8. DG’s Party!

Summer Art Contest Starts Now!!

Each entry must capture a scene from CCH2. Make sure it’s clear what scene you have drawn.

Up to 2 entries per contestant. Contestants MUST be at least 18 years of age at the time the entry is submitted.

Either digital or traditional mediums are fine; whatever you’re comfortable with!

Email submissions to eric@fictionbyericmoser.com (I will send a reply when I get it…if you don’t get a reply in 48 hours, reach out to me.)

Each applicant assigns all rights to their entries to me. Please do NOT post your entry anywhere online until after the judging is completed. Deadline for submissions is 11:59 PM on July 31, 2018.

PRIZES: (paid via PayPal) First Place: $100 USD, Second Place: $50 USD, Third Place: $25 USD. Also the top three entries wil be featured on my website and social media.

I have total discretion regarding the judging process (but I’ll probably open it up for voting like last time, as that’s more fun for everyone!) Folks working on official CCH art projects are not eligible to participate.

Any questions, just ask!
